In "Pagliacci" the clown refers to his outfit as "the motley"
According to an online dictionary, "motleys" (with an s) means "the parti-colored attire of a court jester"; and might certainly apply to any multi-coloured clown suit. However, "motley" or "motleys" could not really apply to the all-white suit (sometimes with black trimmings) of a pierrot-style clown.
In King Lear there are also references to the fool's motley.
scary - clowns are scary, the outfits are scary they should be banned hehe!
