I am building up a database of children's books (ages 5-11) anyone have any recommendations or good advice?

They need to be of a primary school age and suitable for use in a primary school classroom. I am categorising them under Fiction (Adventure, Picture books, Fairy Tales, Traditional Tales, etc)/ Non-fiction (Diary, Persuasion, Explanation, Instruction, Recount, Discussion, etc) and Poetry.

If you would like to add any other notes - like how useful it would be in a classroom, what age it's intended for, any activities suitable to use alongside, how it can improve children's English skills, etc - that would be extremely useful!!

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I used to work in a library and one of the most popular books for 5 year olds was "Fred" by Posy Simmonds. It is so brilliant, I bought it myself. It's in comic book style, is funny and sad at the same time and is very cheap from amazon.
For older kids I still think you can't beat the Narnia books.
As for poetry, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by TS Eliot is unbeatable for all ages.
Hope you like my suggestions!
You can't beat Burglar Bill by Janet and Allan Ahlberg! That's an all time classic...

Dogger by Shirley Hughes too, has sad parts and funny parts.

I used to have a fantastic book called "Old MacDonald had some Flats" - I think it was an American book. It was one of my favourite books - about a caretaker in a block of flats who found the tenants too much like hard work, so he brought in veg and cows and things to replace them with. Really charming and funny, and great drawings.

Another good one is Puddum, the Cathcart's Orange Cat. I can't remember the author.
