Danger....chauvinist reply approaching...... Why would men want valentines gifts? Romance is something we go along with because women like the stuff. (waits for torrent of abuse)...... Seriously though, men are far more worried about getting the right thing for the other half than about what they receive. Anything would do. If you really want to get him what he wants, try a decent meal and a competent back massage.
Assuming you actually want to buy a gift, which is a very nice thought, my learned friend's comments notwithstanding, what about a Bonsai tree - something he'll have to nurture and take care of - a good test of his sensitivity. If you prefer something inanimate, what about a nice Dali print - 'Swans Reflecting Elephants' is nice.
A new horror opens up....the thought of a Valentines gift as some sort of ongoing suitability exam. OK if we are determined to underwrite this Hallmark festival.....Dali, yes, but Id say the Maddona of Port Lligat. Restful, with symbolism and a female icon as centre stage to remind him who sent it. Bonsai to me is too much fuss, and anyway requires to be outside. Try a Vanilla Orchid, if you want to set the Hughes Nurturing Test. Seductive sent as well as flowers, and the name Orchid carries a certain symbolism. Is he an Opera buff? Very little is more romantic than Puccini....
