Thank you, that is the picture referred to in a book I have just seen called "The World of Spiders" No. 38 in the New Naturalist Series, published in 1958. It does say in the reference that it was painted on a spider's web. What made you think it was a caterpillar's web, they don't make webs do they? I thought caterpillars turned into butterflies.
I'll have to make a trip to Chester to see it, it looks so delicate in the photo, and Chester isn't too far away from where I live in Cheshire. Thanks again. Schutz.
PS. My job is to catalogue rare and antique books, the trouble is I keep finding ones that I would like to read instead of getting on with what I should be doing.

Thanks for the reply.

PS: I'm best kept away from book shops. The floorboards in my house will give way if I buy any more ;-)

This might explain a "caterpillar web" a bit more?

Thank you Buenchico. Isn't it surprising what you can find out from all the knowledgeable people on AB. I know what you mean about your floorboards, I could do with a bigger house. The trouble is once you get hooked on books it becomes addictive, and I'm not in the best kind of job to try to curb it. Cheers. Schutz.
