Hi all, I'm in need of some sound advice. I am a hobby artist and I'm now trying to get my work out there to potentially make a little profit from it as I can no longer move for work in my dining room.
I don't wish to join an arts association but actually create one, I want to be able to put exhibitions together for young (40 and under) artists in my local area as from my experiences it is difficult to get noticed unless you have a degree and I personally don't believe that should matter, it should be about passion and talent. Sorry for this one woman crusade but I find it so infuriating that you can't even get taken seriously without a degree.
I appreciate that you can't simply announce "I'm starting this association" and hope all will work out well, could anyone advise me where to start on this? Many thanks

Good luck but you must be aware that artists can only make a bob when they are late!

I'm not looking to make a full time career of this, just give people the opportunity to see what talent there is out there in the local community. I do however know a few people who are full time artists and seemingly do quite well for themselves from it.
Could you maybe get in touch with your local 'Arts Council' or google arts organisations in your area. It would be a start anyhow.

Craft fairs possibly would also give you an arena either to meet or sell your work and get to meet others.

Keep an eye in the paper for arts events, go...and network...etc that's sometimes the best way to find out the local arts info.
