James and Lily Potter were indeed witch and wizard respectively. They met whilst at Hogwart's. Both did die at the beginning of The Philosopher's Stone, killed by Voldemort. Joanne Rowling would never have got four books out of this otherwise?

JK Rowling never gave that information to us. Personally, i think that they worked in the Ministry of Magic in the room of secrets *is that the name?*. they were a well respected family, they were wealthy(the fortune they left harry)...perhaps that information may turn up in hte seventh book, when harry will have to decide what his career will be after school.

Harry Potter's parents had infomation about something I think. But they gave their secret to their secret-keeper who was Sirius Black. (I think I'm right.)

Nope puppyblew. Lily and James' secret keeper was Peter Pettigrew, who betrayed them. I think what they mostly did was help out with the Order of the Phoenix.

i realise this question is a few years old, i just felt the need to point out that although James was talented at transfiguration no one knew about it. neither did anyone know about sirius and peter's transfiguration talents. so james' career couldnt have been to do with that. i think they were aurors.
