Stan this is the begining of a fable, the two protagonists being based on your name as I wanted to motivate you.
The subjects of the story are always animals (not so in a basic story)
the animals can show their own characteristics or human characteristics
there is a moral in the end - in this case for example the stag could find out that study is fun and valuable
or two morals - the wood **** cd find out that study is not the only thing.
All thse things are necessary in fable and not necessary or even absent in a basicstory.
Note in 1962 we were invited to write a fable but no -one told us what it was and we all wrote cr*p.
