Anyone else not like Girl with a dragon Tattoo?

I don't get it. I found it way too long. Most of the first third could have been cut.
I also didn't like the rape scenes and found them gratuitous and unnecessary for what was a simple story.
I wasn't convinced by the plot. I guessed that the unsolved murder related to the initials in the diary and though the Leviticus link was clever, but then there were so many other murders that the references became meaningless.
I know loads of people love the book, but I don't understand what they see in it. Am I the only one to be surprised at its success?

I've got about a third to go and I'm not sure whether or not to read the other two books. I like the style of the writing - it was easy to read despite the Swedish names - but the violence has put me off a little. I shall see how it ends.
All 3 books are related so what you might find unimportant in the beginning of the first one, then makes sense later on. The same with the violence and the rape. They are by far the best books I've ever read, shame the author died.
Wait till you see the films, for once, they do the books justice. Absolutely brilliant

I think the rape is scene setting for the 2nd book.
The thing that anoyed me, as it does in a lot mystery literature. Is the way they find obvious things in a short while that the police supposedly missed. If there that obvious the coppers wouldn't have missed it would they.
No I am not anything to do with her majesys constabulary
