I've just finished this:

And it was great fun. it has been a long time since I've read anything which doesn't play with conventions, form or go in for any general "trickery" of language; it was thoroughly refreshing!

Dark Matter is a story of a Arctic expedition to Gruhuken - a place which has been a no-mans land for years. They attempt to "over-winter" there - the sun wont rise for several months during this time - and guess what happens when it gets dark?

At first I was annoyed by the attempts to create an antiquated style of speaking (this is set in the inter-war period), and the "diary" format (especially as the author so often transgresses it). But once I got into the irony-less "boys own adventure" language I thought it put on a Jolly good show.

So to my question:

Have you read a good ghost story recently? And if so, could you let me know what kind of ghost was in it?

For example, in the above it is a kind of malevolent Sea-spirit.
