Could anyone tell me what this style of art is called? I think it's from the 50's, its quite similar to the cheesecake style(imo), but without the provocitiveness. The only example I can think of is in the credits to 'Desperate Housewives' and its a lady standing holding tins with a surprised look on her face.

Do you mean pop art - one of the most popular artists for this style being Andy Warhol.

See the following info lifted from advertising blurb for a popart paperback:-

The rapid changes in everyday life in the middle of the 20th century are partly credited with the rise of Pop Art. Most of its exponents were born in the 1920s and lived through the Depression, World War II and then the increase in consumerism in the 1950s.

Much of the work of Pop Artists was concerned with challenging the perception of advertising for products and also the nature of fame. Two of the most famous images of the movement were Andy Warhol's painting of a tin of Campbell's Soup and his images of Marilyn Monroe.
