I'm still very new to Kindle so be patient! I downloaded a book of verse (free) from Amazon and although it displays the poems properly, where the pictures/drawings should be, the word "illustration" appears. Is there some setting I need to change or is it cos it was a free book and you don't get the complete version???

I asked Kindle support and they responded very quickly saying there was a problem with the book but I bought a book today and again the illustrations in the hard copy are missing though the captions appear in the ebook!

I think it's because many of the free books are classics that have been transcribed into Kindle format by volunteers who probably don't have access to the scanning equipment needed to put in the illustrations. Also, although the text may well be out of copyright, the illustrations may be newer - probably commissioned for a particular edition - and thus still subject to copyright regulations.
