hi, this isnt a question as such but for art homework I have to choose and write about an image from an artist of my choice. I'm not sure what image to do and i was wondering if you lot had any favourites which I could do my homework on? Thanks.

Perhaps my favourite is 'Le Moulin de la Galette' byt Pierre-Auguste Renoir.  Have a look at http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/renoir/moulin-galette/ - click on the image in top corner for large image.

This type of art is called Impressionism.  I think this kind of art is easier to write/talk about because it is literally setting a scene.  You can see many different people in the painting and they can all tell a story; all you need is your imagination.  Who? How? Where? What? When?

If Impressionism isn't really your taste then try pre-Raphaelite.  My favourite is John William Waterhouse - see http://www.jwwaterhouse.com/

I think one of my favourites is Salvador Dali:

I also find mc escher's work amazing:

As well as Edvard Munch:

And lastly, William Blake, painted my absolute favourite picture - The Ancient of Days:

I'm with natalie - Dali's 'Metamorphosis Of Narcissus' and 'Swans Reflecting Elephants' are my favourites.
Renee Magritte's 'The False Mirror' - http://www.artsforge.com/agallery/eye.html. Its one of my personal favourites; its just so symbolic. Ive written about it, and have found that its relatively easy, as long as you really try to relate to it. Think maybe about the saying 'the eyes are the mirror to the soul' and how that corresponds with the painting. Good luck :)

For me, "writing about an artist and his works" always involved copying the piece as well (or maybe that was just my teacher wanting to completely take over our lives...). If this is the same with you, then I'd go wth something like Picasso, they're complicated but not as obvious if its not quite right. Picasso was the father of Cubism (along with Georges Braque), so you could talk about his history, influences, how people reacted to his work etc. Try these sites: http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/picasso_pablo.html
