Thanks,dotty...but if Van Gogh and Picasso can sell for 80 million pounds....just think this would sell for....that is if the tate gallery were thinking of selling....maybe 200 million pounds....at least....

Can you jmagine what Richard Dadd would think about his paintings selling for millions....by the way ...wasnt one of his paintings sold for about 100k on antique roadshow?
Terry Pratchett used the idea of that picture in one of his books...one of the Tiffany Aching ones.
It was called 'The Halt in the Desert'.
Dadd killed his dad and spent most of his life an inmate in Broadmoor. He was still a good painter, though
On reading his Wikipaedia entry..........it appears he would have gone down quite well (in some circles) on AB..........a founding father.............;o)

I just cant take my eyes off of some of his imagery on "the fairy feller"....very,very,19 century imagery....

I used to have a big book which described all the imagery on the painting...such as the demagogue...such as the ostler....such as the fat ankled ladies....

But if Richard Dadd was as mad as he has been described ..how the hell was he able to paint such beautiful paintings as he did....did he not murder his father and then claim insanity to prevent himself from getting hanged...not that im complaining...with his paintings...
he was so very inside his own world, as well as inside Bedlam Hospital.

I think there is a very complex maze,mosaic...there must be about a 150 characters in this painting....
