Does the Turner Prize serve a useful purpose?

It rarely ever has any true art pieces in it and seems to exist only to shock people with the judges choice.

Yes, art needs a showcase for the most cutting edge work out there. Without it, art might become boring and that would be worse.

It is worth having, but some of the pieces of art do stretch the limits of what can be called artwork
