what to do with long hair

Hi just wondered if anyone could help... Iv got long hair and when I go out I always straighten it and have it down. Im going to a posh do this weekend and was thinking of trying something different!! (and thought it might be hot). I always see other peoples hair looking lovely tied up, but I dont know how to achieve this look!! Is there a web site that people use to learn 'girlie' things'!! or could someone explain it to me!! thanks in advance x

I have long hair too and often put it in a chignon. There are a few images here:

Get one of those hair donuts; tie your hair back; put the donut on then lean forward so your hair drops over the donut and put another hairband on to secure it in place hen use bobby pins to tidy up any bits that are hanging out. I did this for my graduation ball and was so easy (after I'd practised) and looked really nice!

How about curling first (big curls) then bringing around to side pony tail. Seems very popular. x
