Hair Straighteners

I'm new and this is my first question, hope it appears in the right section and apologies if it hasn't.

My GHD straighteners have stopped working. I have thick hair with a strong curl and the straighteners have done a good job. However Before I order another GHD which would set me back £99 pounds.
I was wondering if anybody could recommend a cheaper make of straightener which would do the job just as well.

I would never buy another brand of straightener again after owning GHDs for 3 years+ .

A pair of non-working GHDs just sold on EBay for £13.10 + £4.10 p&p. So, don't throw them away, get them on EBay.

GHD will fix your straighteners (for a reasonable cost) even outside of the warranty period. It may be worth sending them off to see if they can be mended before opting for new ones (or different brand).

There are GHD repair services for sale on Ebay.
Do a search for "GHD repair service".
My missus has used one - it costs around £15.
Usually when they stop working, it's an internal fuse that needs replacing. It's quite tricky to do if you don't know what you're doing (that's why I didn't try and repair my missus' GHD's).
The one that my msus has used twice (2 different GHD's) is the Ebay seller "age9000" so I can def vouch for them :)

Thanks everyone, having the straighteners repaired is not something I had considered and I think its a very good idea and worth looking into it. As you say Gizmonster, could be a fuse. Will check out Ebay and the GHD website link. Thanks for your help.

The fuse that's prob gone is the thermal fuse, located inside the unit (not the plug fuse).

Tilly2, GHD are a brilliant make of hair straighteners, especially for people with hair like mine, but the downside is they are very costly.

BTW, nice to meet you all, from what I've seen so far this looks like a nice friendly site.

This may be an idiotic question....but why do people want to straighten naturally wavy/curly hair?
I can understand smoothing already straight hair...but what's wrong with what Nature has given us? Is it only because it's the current trend?

I hate my wavy hair, it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't also coarse. If I could leave it natural and not look like Crystal Tips (from the cartoon), I would.

I like curly hair Pastafreak and I wouldn't straighten it if it had lovely gentle waves or ringlets, which look beautiful.
But sadly if left in its natural state it looks very messy and bushy and there is so much of it and I only have a small face, I get dwarfed by it. LOL, I don't want to frighten the locals! :)

I don’t know if these irons are cheaper, but they might be just as good, if not better. You can compare the different models here: http://besthairflatirons.com . I would check different features, quality, and if there is a warranty or guarantee before investing in another one.
