Nail Hardener?

After 25-odd years of biting my nails, I have finally stopped. Hoorah!

However, I'm very surprised at just how 'soft' they are. Is that normal? I'm used to acrylic nails, which are super-hard, so these feel a bit odd. Also, I keep catching them and am surprised at how easily they bend back... and hurt!

I've heard of nail hardener, but does anyone have a product they would recommend?

Mavala Scientique Nail Hardener - found that on Ebay. Is that the stuff?

Any good/would you recommend?

(Thanks) :-)
Here it is, you'll have to google about a bit to find stockist (Boots or Superdrug might do it)

That's brill, thanks.

Did it work well?
Absolutely, the stuff is brilliant, you could poke someone's eyes out after you've used it or a while. It's very watery and not a varnish, you put a small amount on (tips I think) and let it soak in.

Ah, that's great!

Thank you. It's much appreciated :-)
You're welcome Babysham, I might order some for myself now :-)
I tried the Mavala a few years ago...made my peeling, soft nails worse.
I think what works for one person may be all wrong for the next.
Some swear by OPI nail envy, others like Sally Hansen.
I've found that something will work for a while-then my nails seem to become resistant. *sigh*
IMO you need to sort yourself from the inside so that you cure the problem, not cover it over. It will take a few weeks before you get the full effect but I can't recommend them highly enough. Try these, they were brilliant in sorting my soft, splitting nails out plus the bonus of improving my hair.

I don't know about any one else, but I know I eat a good diet, and I also take biotin for my nails and hair. But working in a kitchen means my nails take a beating no matter what I do.

Thanks for the further responses :)

I do actually take quite a few vitamins, pills and potions as it is, so fairly 'healthy' on the inside. I wonder if it's because I've bitten them for SO long, that they now seem very soft.
The Mavala product has yet to arrive, but I did get an email to say it'd been shipped, so probs will be here tomorrow.
Is it just me, or do nails seem to take foreeeeeeever to grow?
I too took several vitamins and was (still am) healthy. But obviously as my nails were a mess then I was probably deficient in something that the tablets put right. And if your nails are soft then possibly you are too. Whatever is in the tablets in my link worked for me and a friend. But it's up to you of course ...
Nailtique is brilliant for strengthening nails, only available online though.

Nail update: I used the Mavala, and it was indeed very good.
However, I got a bit stressed the other day and before I knew it, I'd bitten them all off :-(

Time to start again...
