The surgery was scheduled for the 4th July but yesterday we received a call from the surgeon to say that her blood tests were not good and they may have to re-schedule it. It is looking like she has had an infection in the bone at the site of the current implant and the bone has deteriorated, hence the prosthesis coming loose. The way around this isnt good, it now sounds like she will need to have the knee replaced twice in six weeks, the first will be a temporary one and the second will be a proper one, I think they need to see how much damage has been done by the infection and how much bone they need to remove for the new joint, maybe make a new joint to suit. We will know more in the nect few days. The surgeon thinks the infection may have been there since the first knee replacement 6 years ago.
