Clues annotated with (Sc) will be a Scottish or Scottish dialect word, term or slang. If not annotated (Sc) then it's a normal British/English word or term. I can't guarantee given letters are correct yet as it's difficult, sometimes with obscure spelling variations.

10a. Large Farm (Sc) (6) N?C?L?

Thanks to Toorak we have/had MUCKLE, but 4d providing the first letter N casts doubt.

12a. Teachings (6) T?S?O?

I suspected LESSON or WISDOM but 4d providing first letter T casts doubt.

4d. Blind man's bluff (Sc) (4,4) ?L?? ???M

Thanks Toorak for finding reference to BLIN STAM

I suspect this is correct as I can't find any other variations for a Scottish term for blind man's bluff. It's this answer (if correct) that provides the first letters N for 10a and T for 12a.

If MUCKLE is correct for 10a & either LESSON or WISDOM is correct for 12a - the letter count for 4d looks like this.

MUCKLE & LESSON leads to 4d letter count  ?L?M ?L?M

MUCKLE & WISDOM leads to 4d letter count ?L?M ?W?M

Appreciate any help or insight.

Don't know why muckle would mean farm, it only means large. Think the Blin is right, but not sure about the last bit. What do you have for 6 down. ?U?L?O?

^^ muckle

Deersold1: I have 6d as GULLION and I'm pretty confident because it's in the Scottish dictionary.

If the letter M in MUCKLE didn't interfere with the letter N in BLIN STAM I'd say they were both correct, as they are both referenced in the Scottish dictionary. MUCKLE has several references but section 5 of following link definitely mentions 'Farm'. Dictionaries of the Scots Language:: SND :: muckle

If link don't work just copy it into browser.

Scottish dictionary has BLIN STAM specified at section 4 (42) of Dictionaries of the Scots Language:: SND :: blin v2 n adj

Thanks

Thanks, I couldn't see the blin stam in my chambers Scots school dictionary,  but its an old book. Just saw blin. I used to like the crossword  a whole lot better when it was cryptic  before it changed  to a mixture of straight clues and scottish slang, it just seems to be a matter of looking things up now.

I must have got 12a.. 'lesson' wrong then if it's stam.

Deersold1 - 12a I was suspecting LESSON OR WISDOM, unfortunately neither fit if 4d is BLIN STAM

Also considered TENETS but that would make my 5d FORCES & 6d GULLION wrong

I'm fair flummoxed by it, I'm even suspecting an error this month - but there must be an obscure word or spelling that I haven't found yet. See start of this post for possibilities of letter counts assuming 10a Muckle correct and 12a either LESSON or WISDOM etc, and what that means to letter count of 4d.

I thought about an error too. They  have had them before. My mother always said if you really can't work it out (re the times cryptic) you probably have one wrong. Your 'wisdom' answer sounded good to me too. I had it first and crossed  it out. It's making me go daft! 😅
