I know you can get your hair chemically straightened at a salon, but I have seen hair relaxant for afro hair in the store. Is it possible to use this on caucasian hair or is it too strong?

Have you asked at the shop where you saw the hair relaxant?
If I were you, I would have the Yuko hair straightening sysem. You will pay about 300 but it is permenant and your hair will be like silk after and onwards. Don't mess about with other stuff, especially not at home. You will suffer the consequences of dry, split hair. Trust me ... I've been there!
I have been relaxing my hair (caucasian) for many years - Revlon red (mild) relaxer (approx 2.70 a tub). First time was all of it done professionally in a hairdressers, and since then I just do the roots every 10 - 12 weeks.

My sister also used to have hers done (very strong, coarse reddish hair) but started to get hers 'Yuko'd' and she cannot revert to having it relaxed now. (we did a test and the hair just all broke up). It costs her about 350 every 3 months
