Eyeshadow and eyeliner application

I'm 15 and have brown eyes with hints of green (i suppose they could be describe as hazel, although it depends on what light you see them in) and i always seem to choose the wrong colours for my eyeshadow. I've got slightly olive skin, and I'd like to know if anyone's got any tips on eye shadow and eyeliner colour that would suit my type of eyes?

Also, any tips on eyeshadow application for different effects? I've searched around on the internet for tips, but all I seem able to do is the blocks of colour on my eyelids. It get's quite boring so I'd just scrapped eyeshadow all together for a couple of months, but I'm feeling adventurous again lol

I'm completely hopeless at eyeliner on the top of my eyelids, so any advice on that would help too.

i'd say you should use a medium brown color eyeshadow. stay away from bright colored ones. it took me a lot of practice to master eyliner on the top, but for me, it helps if i stretch out my eyelid from the corner and then apply it. it goes on more evenly then and without gaps. also, for eyeliner, i think it looks good when it's thicker on the outer corners, like kind of a cat eye look. but don't do that if u want it to look really natural lol. my eyes are greenish greyish brownish and i get compliments on my makeup. hope this helps :-)

You can get eyeliner pens now which are a lot easier, just like a felt tip, i've got a great max factor one. Rest your elbow on a table to get a smoother result. Cotton buds are good for blending if you want a smokier look.

Try a highlighter, base colour and darker colour to accentuate.

Eye crayons are quite good for practicing these effects and good for blending as well.

If you have powder shadows a good blending brush is great, MAC do a great one.

A good way to learn is to go into a department store and get the assistants to show you and try out colours, they're often very good at knowing what suits you, i've always found MAC great esp for the more daring colours.

I have the same colour eyes and skin, and read that brown eyeshadow makes this colour of eyes look green, and green eyeshadow makes them look brown.

However when I used brown, it made me look ill!

I've found that greys, silvers and purples look well with my colouring. You could go to one of those makeup counters and ask for advice from them. Just make sure to pick one with someone young working on it, and someone with nice makeup themselves!

As for the eyeliner, I would stick with black, it makes your eyes stand out more, and just keep practicing putting it on! Close your left eye, hold it closed by pressing your eyelashes down with your left hand, and paint the line right along the lash line

i am the same colouring as you exactelly and i'm a beautician so after i did my corse i found loads of useful tips and hints, i would agree and use browns, dark green colours deffinatly stay away from blues pinks etc.
eyeshadow:
a nice dark green or brown colour maby turquiose place on the outside of your eyelid (nearest to your ear) and flick the applicator inwards so you get a shading effect dont place any in the inner area. you might need to use a little brush to blend it in properly.
eyeliner:
i always had the same problem, what you need to do prefrabelly with a liquid eyeliner pen. stretch out your eyelid with the eye closed and just lightly draw the line across you dont have to go all the way to the inner side of your eye, you can start from the middle outwards (p.s dont worry i always get it in my eye it washes out!) if u accidently jog it just lick your finger and run it across the top to avoid the line being too thick.

heyy im 15 too so hopefully ill be quite understanding for you..(not that no1 else on here is! haha)..instead of going fot a black eyeliner use a choclate brown 1, this will jus highlight your eyes, put this on the bottom inner line of your eyes, just on the ends though cos if you go too near to the inner eye it can look quite heavy & make your eyes look small. also try a bronzey coloured eyeshadow, again sweep it on the ends of your eyelid but before doing this get a lightter colour- even white & blend it into your brown to get that light blending into dark effect!..(urban decay do lovely eyeshadows, they aren't cheap but they do look great!)..also you mentioned eyeliner on the top of your eyelid, i always used to struggle with this but now i find it easy..liquid eyeliner is probably the best but youv got to be careful cos its runny & can easily smudge..stretch the end of your eyelid slightly & run the brush over from the inner eye to the end quite quickly & neaten it up with a cotton bud, also to add a flirty & glamourous look ( ;) haha ) add little flicks on the end!..thats if your going out or something! i hope this helps & i know iv wrote alot sorry about that, anymore help just post back x

I love MAC eyeshadow in Patina which is a mid bronzey colour that looks great with brown or green eyes. Apply softly with one of those wee pad applicators and blend the edges gently with your finger for daytime...dampen the applicator for night as it intensifies the colour and use a blending brush toward the outer corner for a cat-eye look, especially if you look up and apply to the under eye too!

The tip on pulling the lid out to get right down the lashes is the business, but the best thing i have ever used is the MAC 266 slanted brush. it is the perfect shape and you can use it with dry or wet shadow for a smoky look or buy any old liquid liner in black or brown ( i like the Bourjois ones) and simply dip the brush into the stalk above the nib to pick up colour and off you go!

I'm a make up artist and teach people all kinds of techniques for eyeliner, but that's the trick i use on me everyday without fail!
Black liner is best for making your lashes look longer and thicker if applied to the very base of the lash. Brown looks softer and gives a better daytime look especially with a littel flick at the end. To get that subtly, just smile very slightly as you do the liner and it flicks gently

some great books for teaching yourself are the Face Forward range by Kevin Aucoin or Make up Your Mind by Francois Nars. They should be available on Amazon!
Or definitely get yourself to a MAC counter and get a lesson...they will teach and inform rather than just sell to you. Most girls on the counters work on commission, so you can't be sure how reliable they are!

MAC does the widest range of colours, but buy some cheap shades from Superdrug to test out what you like and feel comfortable with. Dampen them if they seem a bit thin...some of the make-up artist brands are very heavy on pigment which makes them difficult to apply and blend it you aren't used to eyeshadows.
