Hiya Delish

When I studied holistic health and nutrition, we were taught that it was a sign of an acidic system. The best way to reduce acidity is by drinking carrot juice (fresh - not from a bottle) and don't mix it with any fruit - that will make it acid forming.

You can also take coral calcium tablets to reduce acidity.

To get rid of the ridges from a purely aesthetic point of view, use one of those multi surfaced nail files. They take the ridgesof the nail, and by using each of the (usually) four different surfaces, smooth your nails and buff them to a beautiful natural shine. You should be able to get one from your local Boots, chemist or beauty supply shop.
Pushing your cuticles back too harshly can dent the nail as it's growing at the base, which creates ridges as they grow. Avoid using orange sticks - use the corner of the bath towel to ease them back when you get out of the shower/bath instead. It will take time for the ridges to go - as long as the nail takes to grow out, but a buffer will level out your nails until then (although they can thin your nails a bit).
