I'm a natural red head...ginger... But am thinking of dying my hair 'proper red'. Can anyone tell me if this would work? And what is the best way of doing it? At home or hairdressers?

Always do it at the hairdressers if it is something major. They know what they are doing and can fix anything that goes wrong!
Hi happyred, as a fellow gingernut I had pillarbox red lowlights a few years ago, but at the hairdressers. V. pleased with results. As chazza says go to the experts just to be on the safe side :) as unhappygreen isn't such a nice name!

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely be going to the hairdressers then! Good to know that it can be done, so thanks Annabella :-)
hey
im redhead too , i have dyed mine some lovely colours like deep mahogney and other shades of red , its fine looks good , or u could get streaks but a darker red can look lovely !
wouldn't worry about the hairdressers. I use the Schwartzkopff XXL red colours with no probs. Anyway the base is red/ginger so what could go wrong.
Just remember to use the skin test 48 hrs prior
