I am allergic to hair die, I had a terrible reaction about 10 years ago, blisters appeared and I had to have steroids from my doctor. I can never have my hair died again, but I would like highlights but me hairdresser refuses to touch my hair with any sort of chemicals. Does anyone know if bleached highlights would be safe. Should I try another hairdresser?

If I were you I would go to the hairdresser and get a patch test done (behind your ear usually for hair colour).

If she refuses to do this, go to another hairdresser and tell her you would like a patch test as you have had reactions in the past
I agree with that chazza. Plus, if you have highlights applied with foil or easi-mesh, instead of the cap (owch!) the dye need not actually touch your scalp at any time.
Hiya. I have exactly the same thing. I have never had a problem till 2 years ago when for some bizarre reason I reacted very badly to a shop bought brown dye which I had used before. I had blisters, my scalp bled, my eyes closed and I had to go to hospital. I have spoken to my hairdresser only last week and she told me that I should have honey /light coloured streaks put in with foils as the dye will not touch my scalp and therefor not get into the bloodstream.
