For the hair experts !!!

My 9 year old daughter usually has beautiful long hair which is very easy to manage.

However, we went away to Malta for a week and the combination of sun, chlorine from the freshwater pool and salt from the sea and saltwater pool.....all everyday things when we were there, have left her hair looking like rats tails.

Her hair is very dry, lifeless and constantly knotty...especially first thing in the morning. We've tried coconut shampoo and loads of conditioner which does give temporary relief but it's soon back to being knotty again.

Any suggestions what we should do or put on it....the poor little mite loves her hair but is starting to get a bit paranoid about it.

Hi hammerman, a good trim would do her hair the world of good. It might also be worth buying a pot of intensive conditioning treatment and a leave-in conditioner. Good luck.x

Hi hammerman. Some hairdressers do special conditioning treatments too - they're like intensive nourishment conditioners. That may help?

I think Katies just said that Beads, but i wouldn't get it from a hairdressers as boots is much cheaper and it's all the same thing.x

my other half swears by johnsons baby shampoo, best use intensive conditioner first

Thanks Jodie, I understood what Katie said - what I meant is the hairdressers (for example the one near me at work) sometimes do intensive nourishing conditioning treatments - which are stronger than what you'd buy over the counter and are good for those with dry hair.

You pay for the hairdresser to put the conditioner on your hair approx an extra �10. I had the same problem a few years back and my sister, who is a hairdresser, told me to either buy a conditioner from the hairdressers and do it myself or go to Boots as they are just as good and a lot cheaper. They have a huge range of intensive conditioners to choose from.x

Hiya Jodie - the reason I put this answer was because a girl at my work had very dry hair. She tried all of the leave in/intensives and then the hairdressers by our work did an intensive treatment when she went for a hair cut and sorted it. So I thought (or in my local hairdressers case) that they may have a little extra ommph in them.

Kerastase do a very good conditioner designed for sun damage, but I think it is only available from the hairdressers, you could also try a scalp conditioner that may help

Try ebay for professional strength intensive conditioners,there are many ebay shops that sell to the hairdressing trade as well as the general public.

Aussie 3 minute miracle - about �5 in Boots - I have had a lot of bleach on my hair recently and it is soft and shiny - it smells gorgeous too!

Rox, that is utter nonsense. You can buy salon products on EBay!!!! I am a trained hairdresser (salon I trained in has 5 stars in good salon guide) and sold products to whoever was willing to buy them. It was shampoo and conditioner we were selling not explosives!!!! You can walk in off the street into any salon and tell them what you want to buy and without any sort of consultation whatsoever they will sell it to you simply because hairdressers usually work on commission!!!! They may try to get you to have a consultation so that they can talk you into spending more money in their salon.
We are talking about a nine year old girl's holiday hair here, so I think a conditioning treatment from Boots and a leave in conditioner along with a trim, should do the trick!!!!!x

Use coconut oil - it comes in a glass jar and is hard until it melts in the heat of your hand - you can get it from Boots. I really recommed this for dry, damaged hair. Plaster your daughter's hair in it and let her sleep with it overnight and wash it off the next morning with a gentle shampoo - you should notice a difference straight away.
