try this:
separate your hair into two, as if you were going to put it into bunches. Take the left hand half of your hair and twist it in a rope until it starts to curl up on itself. wrap the rope into a sort of bun on the lower left side of your head, and secure with bobby pins. Then take the right half of your hair, pull it over to the left, and twist into a new rope, wrap it round the bun you have already made, and secure with more bobby pins. The result should be a shiny layered bun which looks lovely if you also secure the whole thing with a hair bobble with a fake flower on it. Or a flower on a hairpin.
It sounds a bit complicated, but it's honestly not. I used to do this in less than 5 minutes when my hair was long. It's good too because it looks different depending on how tightly you wind up the hair, and because you wear it low your arms don't get all achy while you're trying to do it.
