why do my feet always swell when the weather warms up? it's really annoying when I need to wear nice sandals.
My right foot is worse than the left and it is really uncomfortable. I've been to the doctors and he says it's because I'm overweight but other people I know who are the same, don't have the same problem.
Is there anything i can do to help the problem as I'm going to Turkey in August where I am a bridesmaid and I'm worried that it's going to be a problem.

I think it`s because the veins swell in the heat so the blood can`t get back up the legs so easily. I find my feet swell in hot climates when I`m walking around a lot. I never by shoes after a lot of walking for that reason. Obviously putting your feet up would help but I find putting my ankles under a cold running bath tap for a few minutes works.

Thank you 237SJ. I do put them up as often as possible.
If I soaked them in ice water before going to the wedding, do you think that would help? or put off the swelling for a while at least.
Mine do this too, important to keep the circulation going, try to avoid standing for too long. I hope you have flat shoes for the wedding, better than heels for being able to wiggle your toes - if not, take the formal shoes off as soon as you can.
I think you have to do it after the event, not before I`m afraid. If I was at a wedding and couldn`t get away I would probably try to get some ice inside a cloth to put on it. There should be plenty of ice around in all those champagne buckets!

I haven't bought the shoes yet boxy as my friend is coming home soon to go shopping. She lives over in Turkey now.so I'm hoping that I'm allowed flats.
I find it really uncomfortable when they swell :-(
Question Author
good idea 237SJ I'll drink the champers and put my feet in the bucket lol
I have no idea........some people's do and others don't.

There is very little that you can do which will help.....in fact I cannot think of anything.

Is it to do with weight though? I'm sure mine were the same when I was not so heavy, but it's difficult to argue that with GP when he's telling me to lose weight!
jubieanna......no, although overweight can cause ankle swelling, in the event of swollen ankles in the hot weather, weight does not play a part.
reduce your salt intake and drink more water, buy some lavender gel and massage that over your ankles before putting your feet up
Question Author
Thank you all for your answers. I will try that folly.
Its important to drink plenty (water that is in between the glasses of champagne!) and try not to stand for too long.

Try it at home before you go - drink more water, keep your feet cool but moving and put them up more often.

thank you for the advice maidup. will try before I go
I used to get that but since I've been taking a daily aspirin for last month, its gone along with dizziness & breathlessness.
Question Author
it's funny you should say that tambo because I've had dizziness as well but GP has put it done to possible menopause. would it be dangerous for me to try a daily aspirin?
Take the aspirin - its supposed to avoid strokes blood clotting. Make sure the pill is dissolved when taking it.
ps...Sainsbury get upset if you buy more than 3pkts at a time - I was escorted out of shop, lol
Question Author
lol. I'll go in and out 3 times to get mine then!
