i currently play a lot of sport and haven't had any injury problems before. i play rugby, running and do cycling, but recently when iv been cycling iv been having sharp pains go up the side of my calves and then i have to get of to ease the pain, does anyone know what it could be?
The Achilles is on the back of your heel, not the side of your leg. If it were to be that I was told by a doctor at the weekend that no amount of anti-inflammatories would make a difference, nor would rest. Gentle exercise and wait it out....but it doesn't sound like you have that.
Anngel123 is quite correct, but the tendon only forms part of the apparatus as the main bulk to which the tendon id attached are the calf muscles (gastrocnemius) and Achilles tendon pain may be referred to the calf muscles.
I think LA is a long way to go for a problem like this and it may be a little expensive, as I'm sure your doctor can help.
Do the problem arise when playing rugby or running? If it is an achilles tendon problem I would have thought it would make you pull up sometimes when running.
Is it possible to take a break from cycling for a while?
