My young son takes Amlodopine and Atenolol for high blood pressure. He suffers with terrible stomach pains. Has any one else experienced stomach pain as a side effect of taking these medicines?

Stomach 'upset' is listed as a possible side effect of both drugs but stomach 'discomfort' is only listed for amlodipine:

As always, the golden rule for anyone who experiences side effects from any drug is to ask their GP if there's an alternative available.

I have been taking Atenolol tablets for the last 20 years and have not had any stomach problems.
If your son's just started taking Atenolol his system may take a while to accept this medication.
Like Buenchico says there is an alternative.
Never assume that symptoms Re a side effect of medication....they may well be, but in my experience are more often not.

I would suggest that you get back to us with more information about these "stomach" pains ...(how long has he been having them, where abouts in the stomach they occur, what brings the on, what relieves them) or better still, see his GP
No, I haven`t, but Buenchico is correct in that upset or discomfort is a possibility. Perhaps your son is particularly sensitive to one or the other and if he gets `terrible` stomach pain you should think about seeing his doctor to get the medication changed.
