I have a shoulder injury but not sure what it is. Could any-one on here please help?

I have a shoulder injury but not sure what it is. could any-one on here please help? my son unintentionally hit me with a hammer and my shoulder has been quite painful. this happened five days ago and the pain has not subsided. shoulder blade is bruised as is the top of my back. hurts when I stretch out my arm.

It could be severe bruising, or you could have chipped a bone (or rather, your son could...) Go and see the doc tomorrow.
Ouch! Get to your GP and ask for referral for xray, you could have a fracture in your scapula if you were hit at the back of the shoulder, or it could be the humerus, clavicle (collarbone) or even the shoulder joint.
That sounds very much like a muscle injury (Trapezius)

Ibuprofen 600mgms twice daily should improve this within7 days.

Fractures of the scapula or upper part of humerus are extremely rare following a blunt injury.
You could have a crack in your scapula, or it could just be badly bruised, there isn't a lot of flesh around that area really to cushion any sort of blow, even on a 'large' person. Go to the doc's who will probably send you for an xray.

Thank you for answering so quickly. I have taken plenty of painkillers but unfortunately they do not seem to be helping much. my wife says I should go to accident and emergency but I think I'll wait and see what its like tomorrow.
