sacroilliac joint

doctor seems to think my back pain is sacroilliac joint strain somedays it can be very painful but find certain exercise eases it especially cycling, walking can sometimes make it more painful does anyone else on ab suffer with this and do you find exercise helps or does it make it more painful?

I had a lot of lower back pain, something showed up on an xray but my MRI was fine. I found seeing an osteopath helped a lot with my lower back.

I can't do a lot of physical exercise generally though and my limitations are more from general arthritis if that. I find bending causes problems with mine (although the pain level is much better after osteo treatment) as I seem to get a bit stuck as well as the pain so I can't stay bent for long and have trouble getting back up. I find sitting can be uncomfortable too if I don't have proper support on my lower back.

Could something like yoga or pilates help? With a view to it helping your back rather than general stuff so it doesn't make it worse? Swimming maybe too? I loved doing stuff like that, really helped my posture and general stretching.

Thanks Jenna for your answer I find sitting for long periods very painful so don't sit for long Im not keen on swimming but I am going to try and fit in a yoga class to see if it helps
My Oh had problems with his piriformus muscle which supports the joint. He found walking very painful but found he could still run. Physio advised that walking was heel strike and running toe strike which made all the difference. It also caused sciatica. Finally cured by receiving accupuncture at local hospital, large needle actually pushed into the muscle.
Hi FS I can see that this is a relatively old thread but if you do re-visit would you be able to describe the pain and exactly where you had it? I have been having discomfort in my back and hip for a while and more often whilst I'm sat.

Hi gatto pain is low just above backside I get it left and right side and sometimes feel the pain go down my butt cheeks the pain doesn't go down my legs I have a job to bend and if I am stationary for to long its painful to get up and also sometimes on walking, I would describe the pain as more of a dull ache
yes, i do the 'secretary stretch', yoga and pilates to keep my back strong after an RTA! basically the weakness will always be there, so bending and pulling should be done correctly!
