I havent given for some years,and was thinking of giving again,anyone do this on a regular basis?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.@ Mrs Chappie - The practice of calling in live donors to hospital to give fresh blood for an operation is long gone, in the developed world at least, but it is very interesting to hear from someone who did it ;) The practice was gradually phased out, with rarer blood groups being the last to be discontinued. Fascinating to hear from someone who participated.
What you can still find is the practice of "directed donations" in many developing countries - the health infrastructure is insufficiently developed to a fully fledged blood donation service - whereby family members go in to donate blood for a relative undergoing a procedure where blood might be required.
