has anyone noticed that their tinnitus seems noisier when they are ill, having just recovered from a chest infection i know the noise in my ears is not so loud now as it was when i was ill, but when i told my Doctor this he did'nt seem to agree that it could be the case, but i kow it was.

You are correct.
I experience this as well - especially if I am daft enough to get a hangover...it can sound as loud as a buzzer when I'm badly run-down.

thanks everyone, i am so glad for that explanation Sqad, i never told my Dr either for years untill i noticed the increase in noise when i was ill, and then he did'nt seem interested, its nice to know others have noticed this as well.
Yes, just had a cough and got two extra noises in my ear. One low, like a transport plane, the other a bit higher, but they've gone now. I've still got the crickets singing, though!
