What an odd instruction........never heard that before. I was walking within 48hours, longer walks with the aid sticks in the next 5 weeks and from then on, away I went.

Just take it easy chrissy
I've not had it done myself but a lady who worked for me had it and she was back at work within 4 weeks.
If you are painfree I don't think it would do any harm to do some gentle exercise or walking. I'm no doc though but I am going by my staff member. Good luck with it! :)
chrissy my mum had hers done and as soon as she was home she was on her own and up and walking round the house. You must do something.
you must not bend or aggravate the joint, that's all!

upper body exercises are always a help great, and swimming is usually ok if the incision has healed!
i agree with sqad - very very odd instructions from your hosp. mine encouraged me to do as much as i could tolerate nd wanted me to do more each day
chrissy.......9 days post op.

If you do not get those legs moving, by walking, you may be in line for a DVT.

ALL movements of the operated leg are important EXCEPT adduction (crossing one leg over the other).

Get going now.
I agree, we used to get our folk back to normal activity except the adduction thing by 14 days post op and they would have had on bed exercises within 24 hours of the operation. Are you SURE that's what they said??

Thanks for all your answers.I am walking, its the other things that they seemed quite concerned that you shouldn't do,hoovering, cooking, ect. leave until at least 6 weeks!
I will do as much as I feel my body will let me! Thanks all x
Chrissy - I'm pretty sure it good to be walking and doing any physio excercises. But I'd say definitely no hoovering. Ever again. ;-)

Great news that you're pain free. Well done.

kiki-frog ,thank you,agree about the hoovering! x
I've had two hip replacements and have never been told not to do anything for at least 6 weeks. Was told to exercise and walk at least 1 mile per day if possible. I live on my own so just had to get on with it. I was driving and back at work in 8 weeks.
PS I was 61 when I had hips done.
