Sleeping tablets
23 Answers
A few years ago I was prescribed some Zopiclone sleeping tablets for a short period of time to help me over a difficult period. I have just re-visited my gp and she will not give them to me again. Has anyone bought them over the internet? I know they are expensive but I only need them for a short time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still trying to wean myself off sleeping pills and believe me it's not easy!
Please try something else to help you relax. I wish you luck. I hope whatever
is concerning you gets easier to cope with. Have you tried a herbal tea before
you go to bed, and a hot bath, some relaxing music. I'm not being unsympathetic because I don't know what your problem is. But I do know that
its night time when worries of the day whirr round in your head and it seems
your brain is to overactive. I hope you sleep well soon and there is always
someone to talk to on here if you cant sleep. Enough of my rabbiting. Take care. Cupid04.xx

zopiclone work well in short bursts and are far less addictive... go back to gp in aweek or so if the problem hasn't resolved...don't ask for the pills but tell her the sleeplessness is becoming a bigger issue for you .. she may have other options .... Nytol do help though so if you haven't tried them its worth having a go
Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I do understand her reasoning behind not prescribing them but back then they were just what I needed. I am open to other suggestions it's just that I know they worked so don't see the harm in using them again short term. Will look at alternatives in the local chemist. Thanks again.
Well.....far be it from me.........BUT I feel that it is not good medical practice to suddenly stop potentially addictive sleeping tablets, without prescribing a loss addictive and potent alternative.......e.g diazepam or nytol.
My advice is to go back to her and put this point in a nice and friendly manner.

Current trend with Zopiclone is 2-3 week bursts when there is severe sleep distubance affecting a persons ability to maintain normal daily activity... as a stop gap while putting in place a plan for dealing with the underlying cause...usually by providing access to a counselling service. The exception is in terminal disease where issues of addiction are irrelevant
