Labrynthitus
22 Answers
A month ago last friday I was diagnosed with Labrynthitus.Today i'm still having the lightheadedness feeling. I have had the prescribed pills and i wonder if there is any 1 out there with some real good advice how to speed up the process to get rid of this feeling. Any 1 who as had this and as recovered quicker through taking any other medication than the 1s the doctor prescribed. I'm coming to the last of the prochlorperazine maleate the doctor as prescribed, but i dont want to come too dependant on those. Any good herbal remedies that will clear the head, any over the counter remedies.

have menieres and I found meditation helped me to get some techniques to feel more grounded (stable), with concentration and breathing etc... like putting your feet flat on the floor to feel more grounded. Avoid busy, crowded, noisy areas too, keep to calm controllable environments.
I'm not sure if the salt thing factors in general labyrinthitis like I've heard it can in menieres (sure Sqad will be able to confirm), I was advised to keep to a low sodium diet and amazing how much sodium is in everything when you check labels, even bottled water.

Ah, never mind then. Could the Cooksey exercises help me with menieres when I get dizzies - it's been behaving not too badly for a while, big dizzy wise anyway, and am more used to the more day to day stuff by now, albeit annoying, and got my betahistines and stemtil but good to know for if it rears up worse again. I can let my mum know too as her menieres is far worse than mine.
If it's anything like cranial osteopathy, that's great! My osteo used to do some at the top of my spin, back of my neck and into the lower back of my head and it was brilliant.

Jenna....no......exercises would not be suitable for you as the mechanism of dizziness in Menieres Disease is completely different than the vertigo in labyrinthitis.
In Menieres, the dizziness is due to a build up fluid in the inner ear (endolymphatic fluid) and exercises would have no effect between the attacks and would make the dizziness worse during an attack

That's interesting, I didn't know there was a difference. I knew about the fluid thing as it was the common thing said to me when GPs looked in my ears, no sign of infection but they could see fluid. Am guessing that's where the fun (not) tests come from where they pour water in your ears and see what happens.
How does the vertigo/imbalance thing work in labyrinthitis if you don't mind me asking?
