No but I have been on Simvastatin for nearly 20 years.I asked the doctor if it was possible to eat cholesteral reducing foods and stop taking Simvastatin,he said NO as no matter how much of the foods I ate the cholesteral reduction would be minimal compared to the tablet.
The tablet is hugely effective but I had to stop taking it two years ago, because of the known side effect of serious muscle pain. I must admit I haven't been back for further blood tests for six months, no doubt my GP will nag me about that when I see her tomorrow.
I am on Pravastatin rather than Simvastatin. If the info on the web is to be believed it is one of the few statins with which you can continue to enjoy grapefruit.
im on ramipril started on 5mg a day just been increased to 20mg a day but still isnt bringing mmy blood pressure down so i guess the doc gonna put me on beta blockers really dont want to hate taking tablets i am slightly over weight cannot seem to shift it as im also going through menopause seems like im fighting a losing battle and dont mention the sweats
I lost 35 lbs by cutting out carbs and my BP and cholesterol scores dropped dramatically.

If you can crack the weight thing you may have a chance.
tezmand.....sounds a good idea, the combination of Ramipril (ACE inhibitor) and a beta blocker is a well tried therapeutic combination for the treatment of high BP.
do you know if beta blockers put weight on you as im struggling with my weight anyway i try to not eat carbs but sometimes struggle to finf meals that dont include a carb any eecipes you can tell me zeuhl

Im on Ramipril and Simvastatin, for High BP, I was told at the hospital that it is virtually impossible to reduce High BP by diet alone.

Tezmand -if you have an iPad, there's a great app for recording your daily intake of calories and it also records weight entries so you can track gains or losses- plus a built in bar code reader which easily identifies any wrapper with a bar code and displays calories/fat etc.... The app is 'MyfitnessPal' from the App Store.....might even be free, I'm not sure....
I am on Ramipril, Amlodopine and Bendroflu-whatsit for my blood pressure and also the Simvastatin my cholesterol levels weren't that high but doctor put me on them as I am diabetic and there is some link that he told me about but it all went in one ear and out the other.
My Oh is on both one for cholesterol although he has the best diet around always has had which consists mainly veg takes loads of exercise walking the dogs is no way overweight and takes Ramipril for damage done to his kidneys after some prostate trouble he had didn't realize they were for high blood pressure as well his blood pressure is normal
Fruitsalad his BP is normal BECAUSE he is taking Ramipril.

It is damage to the kidneys which causes high BP.in your OH's case.
Not sure sqad he has never suffered with high blood pressure before he had the prostate problem which was 2 years ago and since then he's been taking this medication
Sorry sqad didn't read your post properly I see didn't realize damage to kidneys could high blood pressure
i must read my posts before pressing submit my typos are so stupid lol i dont have an i pad unfortunatly i find it very hard to have meals without a carb pasta potatoe or rice is part of a meal for me regularly unfortunatly i walk everywhere even tho i have a car only use it if its raining im trying without sucess

Tezmand -I found that tea drinking was my downfall because I always had to have something with it eg., biscuit or sandwich -snacking was the problem and cutting down portion sizes helps too!
Texmand - I have been on a combined dose of Ramipril and Amlodipine for about 3 years, it seems to work perfectly as my blood pressure is spot on at every check.
