Trapped Nerve

I have been having trouble with my shoulder and have had a number of steroid injections to ease the pain the most recent one was three weeks ago.

Over the weekend I have had shooting pains running down my arm to my thumb which suggests a nerve is being pinched when I extend my arm.

Will painkillers/anti-inflammatories help or should I see if I can have my appointment with the consultant brought forward?

I assume that the pain for which you have had the injections is different from the pain that you have been experiencing over the weekend.

It does indeed sound as though a nerve root is being trapped possibly by an arthritic boney projection in your cervical spine ( neck) and it is certainly worth giving NSAIDs e.g Ibuprofen a trial before contacting your consultant.

Yes, the pain is quite different to what I have been previously experiencing but almost certainly linked to the other problems.

I have psoratic arthritis, spondylosis/itis (can never remember which), facet syndrome and entrapment which previously have resulted in limited movement and caused (relatively) dull pain. This is a sharp and intense pain, quite different. In the past it has been suggested from x-rays that I have spurs on cervical vertebrae but recent x-rays haven't been noted as showing the spurs.

I'll try Diclofenac and see what happens, I just wasn't sure if it would work in this situation.

Ok, it is hurting like bu@@ery and the NSAIDS aren't helping. Any other tips?
