Help please sqad - re: knee problem
32 Answers
Hi Sqad or anyone! OH has just walked out to car and his knee has just gone "twang" at the back and it is so painful he can't bear his weight on it, my neighbour and I have had such a struggle getting him back indoors, he says he feels it is muscular or similar but he is in great pain. He has had 2 paracetemols as because he is on aspirin, atenelol and ramipril I understand he can't take Ibuprofen?
What on earth could he have done, and what shall I do for him please, bearing in mind I can't drive. Shall I get a friend to take him to A&E or do you think it will settle? What a predicament .................

Gness, that is SO kind of you, bless you. He is lying down at the moment resting it, so I will monitor the situation. We are about the same distance as you to Leicester, but the Leics hospitals are a nightmare for A&E, we usually go to Grantham (same distance) its a long wait to be seen, but not half as bad as Leicester. I will post again if I need your help, thank you (you are so good to offer) but I may have a friend who could get him there if it gets worse. xx

Ann...just back from the Club ;-)
This souinds an acute soft tissue injury, probably tendonous in nature and will take time to heal.
I would suggest a bag of frozen peas strapped to his knee and ibuprofen at least 400mgms as and when necessary ( no problem with aspirin and Ibuprofen) in my opinion.
Rest it and report back to us in 48hours time.

Hi - an update. My brother is coming to take him down to our local surgery they have a kind of A&E there, when they feel like it :) just for advice whether to take him over to Grantham A&E at the hospital. He has rested it for an hour lying down but is still painful even with painkillers. Thanks Sqad re Ibuprofen, I may try those when we get back. I have found a frozen bag of veg, will try this aswell. Thanks for your help everyone. x
Thanks DT - Bro has just phoned me from the doctors surgery, OH is standing waiting in MTU, massive queue, short staffed but I'm pleased someone will see him if only to advise ................. it took him 5 minutes to get his shoe on :( I have an ice pack ready ...... it's times like this when I know "cowardly custard me" should have learned to drive. Thanks for advice on here too, have Ibruprofen for him to take Sqad, now I know it's suitable, ta ;)
He got back a little while ago - saw the head nurse, who gave his knee a very thorough prodding etc! Said she thought it was the muscle which was inflamed and had got into spasm as was tight. Advised him to put hot pack on - not cold, and to take 400mg Ibuprofen and rest it but don't use a knee bandage. My brother heard a remedy last week of using a surgical spirit "poultice" on sports injuries, involves wrapping a cloth soaked in mixture of fairly hot water and surgical spirit around the affected limb - he tried it on a sprained wrist and it worked! Anyone else heard of this? Thanks to all for your advice today. :)
