Hi

Okay so b12 is in hand...but my bp seems to have shot up, it has always been on the high side, 140/95 etc but recently it is going higher, so they have got me on a 24hr monitor.

Thing is I am so stressed about the readings that I am getting more and more worked up... my last one was 171/101...is this still safe? Any tips on how to relax with it?

Now! Now! Calm down.

A 24 hour monitor will soon sort the wheat from the chaff as you can' t be tensed up for all that time. 171/101 is rather high, but not the end of the world.

See this through creamegg and keep us informed.

Hi squad...update...

When I have laid down and gone to sleep - ie... not thought about it or stressed about it, my bp has gone down to 140/70 odd, but as soon as i get up and stay upright it goes right back up.

Is it just because I am stressing about it? Or does the fact that im laid down and standing up have an impression on it?
Yes, when you are horizontal, your BP does indeed drop.....but think about it.....you normal life is in the upright position and this is when the BP needs assessing.

I am already taking propranolol but that is for anxiety more than bp, so it is obviously not having much of an effect. What do you think the docs will say? I am beyond stressed....

If they put me on another pill should I stop the propranolol?
Propanolol is a beta blocker......yrs it is used for anxiety but also it is used for lowering the BP which it doesn't seem to be doing in your case.
Continue the 24 hour monitoring and let's reserve further comments for later, when we have the results.
It sounds like white coat syndrome, it's often taken into account that people's BP goes up when they see a doctor :-)

okay...is there a number in which i should be panicking at, if it goes too high? Im up to 176/111!
Oh! my God........
creamegg, panicking will only make matters worse, I can top those figures but don't want to get into a competition, your GP will sort you when the results are in.
Sqad, behave!!
Question Author
seriously....I am panicking here!!! I'm scared.
Please don't it will achieve nothing, try to calm, watch some TV, call a friend or something.
go and find something else to do and ignore the numbers.....don't look at them at all. yes they are high, but you are not going to explode, ok? you really need to go and do something else. if you don't, then you are going to remain anxious. your call, really.

Just come back from docs, although my bp fluctuated wildly, from the ridiculously high to quite low, my average reading from the 24hr machine was 160/90...now this is high, as I know...so...

Doctor wants me to take an extra 5ml of propranolol every day, I currently take 10ml, so I will be on 15ml to see how I get on.

Do you think this will help lower it?
You mean mgms NOT mls.

Should improve the situation........and i agree with the management by your doctor.

Settle on 15mgms of propranolol and reassess in a couple of months time.
Question Author
well its 5ml spoonfulls I take! As I have the liquid. So it will be 15ml I take now, I think its 50mg in 5 ml.
That will be 150mgms of Propanolol.......that is a normal dose.

Good luck.
I take three different tablets for high blood pressure, so I would think (and I'm not medically trained at all) that you are worrying unnecessarily, and stressing yourself. Give it time, and the doctor will maybe try other tablets. Whatever you do, don't keep taking your blood pressure, that will make you more and more anxious. Try to forget about it for a while. The doctor sees many more people with much higher BPs than us, I'm sure. Best of luck, and do try to distract yourself with a book or the TV. Kind thoughts.
I don't even know what my blood pressure reading is. I haven't been to the doctors for about 15 years....I could be off the scale, but worrying about it is going to cause me more harm than not. Please don't worry creamegg x
I have HBP and have been on medication since my teens. My doctor says that the only time we 'really' have to worry is when we have NO blood pressure.

You should be okay with the medication.
