On Thursday my husband came home complaining that he had a sore head (not headache, but that it actually was sore) and that he had felt something pop when he was at work. He still has the sore head and has now let me know that when it happened he lost strength in his left arm (v bad as he was on a roof at the time) and he says that today he had trouble completing sentences. He must be concerned as he has just gone to the walk-in doctors (never heard off before). Is this something and nothing or a cause for concern (he is not a moaner if he hurts himself, although he does enjoy a good wallow if he has man flu).
I agree with VHG - the signs could be a minor stroke. I hope not, for all your sakes, but he's done the right thing - if it is that, early diagnosis is very important.
Let us know how he gets on ♥
these are stroke symptoms, so you might like to check if he has any of them. At a glance, the speech problem might be one, but might not. Anyway, he's definitely done the best thing.
Hi all, thanks for your kind replies. Doctor is concerned about the speech thing but thinks he may have pulled a muscle in his head which is causing the sore head or that he is too stressed. He has to keep 'an eye' on the situation. His face hasn't dropped or anything and he can use his arm normally but I was worried that he might have had a mini-stroke or something. I have already taken on some of his work load for him (as I now have more time) but I will keep a very close eye on the poor old sod, x
I had a blackout last year, and my OH thoughtfully went through the list of stroke symptoms, decided I hadn't had one, but took me to hospital anyway. (It was just a bad reaction to a pill.) Better safe than sorry on this sort of thing.
Hell no Bednobs. I meant I am dealing with the money and suppliers, etc (and keeping things in order for him). Actually, thinking about it he might have over-stressed himself by going onto the roof (he usually sends someone else up as he is not good with heights).
Cheers Sqad, he's not a drama queen so totally out of character for him (he doesn't even have a doctor here and we have lived here 5 1/2 years). I think it is a combination of general stress, tiredness and frightening the crap out of himself up on the roof. Poor old sod is not getting any younger so he should be slowing down a bit, not doing more. Hopefully he will get some rest over Christmas (he's flat out at the moment) and start to feel better.
While I cant add anything useful about your husband, my husband has suffered several strokes since 2001. I have always, even if I only spoke to him on the phone, been able to tell from his speech that he had had a TIA or minor stroke. It is kind of more spaced out than normal. Thankfully his strokes have none of them affected his speech other than this, and the worst is his balance and he now needs a stick to walk any kind of distance.
Hi both, the fact that he has actually gone to the doctors is massive, getting him to go back if things don't get worse will be hard work. I promise that if he doesn't improve (quickly) or if there is the slightest deterioration I will personally drag him back (he is obviously worried about the situation to have actually gone so I am pretty sure he will go back if things get any stranger/worse). Thanks for your concern, x
