Incontinence Products

When my husband was discharged from hospital he was provided with loads, an I mean loads, of the product he was currently using. Now thankfully he doesn't need to use them. My problem is no one seems to want to take them back, have left messages on answerphones, but no-one rings me back. Supplies are in as good a condition as they were supplied to us. Unopened packets and boxes. Any ideas what I can do with them I don't want to throw them out, what a waste to the NHS. Thanks

Not sure in chemist will take them back but what about an old peoples home near by.? they may be interested in them.?

I'd donate them, as lilacben suggests. Sadly if you take them back to the chemists they will have to be disposed of - they're not allowed to put them back on the shelves as they have been prescribed for your husband. It's crazy, but a donation to a local home or Age Concern might be very welcome.

Do you have a site like "Freegle" near you. My friend advertised such products free for uplift and they were snapped up very quickly.

My father gave my Mum's to the care home as they were still being delivered after she died. They were very grateful as they go through loads.

My district nurse advised to dispose of unused medical products to avoid infection

Sorry owdhammer, but how is an unused incontinence pad going to be an infection risk to another person. These things are usually in sealed packages.

We have offered unopened supplies to several agencies ,but no go,this is not my answer its medical profession,another thing pointed out that not all houses are as clean as yours and mine

I dont think anybody will take them, bin them.

Fair enough Owdhammer. We had to get rid of a lot when my father died. I tend to think that an unopened pack is ok. In some cases people are glad to get anything for incontinent people.

If you can't find any human takers, I wondered if a cattery or kennels might make use of them for bedding etc.

phone your gp and speak to the receptionist and ask her for the phone number of the continence service in your area, then give them a ring and ask if they will take them back. I worked briefly (as a student nurse) with these lovely nurses and we had spare supplies that patients brought back to us (unopened of coarse). (ATTENDS and Tena)

when m y mum passed away we took her clothes to local charity shop.i just happened to mention to the lady that we had 2 packets of pads unopened she said yes please they had a waiting list for them.so they did someone some good.
as i like you hate waste.
