My son in law is having B12 injections for low blood count and depression. I knew that it was for blood disorders but didn't know that it had a connection to depression

GG you don't seem to be getting any answers, so for what it is worth, here's my 2 pennorth. I have post viral fatigue and depression at the moment caused by getting noro followed by a total stinker of a cold and I was pretty run down to start with. The one thing that seems to be picking me up is berocca which is oral b vits so hopefully the b12 injections will help your s in law.

I would suggest, not knowing the whole picture, that your son is having B12 injections for his blood disorder primarily.

The relationship between B12 deficiency and depression is not well established and is indeed tenuous.
If one was starting to treat a depressive illness, one would not start with Vit B12 injections.

Vitamin B has been used for decades as a "pick me up" but with no, or very little scientific evidence to back up this claim.
I agree with sqad, significant clinical depression is an uncommon symptom of B12 deficiency. However, before treatment one can feel tired and very low.
It will be interesting to see how much he improves on B12 injections.

Thank you squad and slaney - he has been off work for a couple of weeks a little while ago with depression - but as you say I hadn't connected the injections with depressions I will keep you posted
