My sisters front tooth has just fallen out for no apprant reason. She had a check up 6 months ago everything was good. She has not fallen or knocked it and was not eating anything hard when it just fell out. She is not in pain either.
The only thing that has happened is 2 weeks ago she had a calcium drip as she has Osteoporosis.
She is going to the dentist on Thursday but just wondered if anyone else had any ideas why this has happened?
She must have some bone loss in her jaws that has loosened her tooth/teeth. I'm surprised her dentist didn't notice it at her last check up though if that's what it is. If she can get to an emergency dentist she may be able to get it re-implanted, she needs to keep the tooth in a cup of milk until then though.
Not an expert but I believe that drugs like alendronic acid for osteoporosis can cause teeth loss. it allows the rapid absorption and bonding of calcium in the bone hopefully to strenghten the bone not sure of the exact process but it can cause a problem with teeth losening in the gums. I have been told to notify my dentist that i am on osteo meds so that he can take care if i eer should need any major tooth work done.
Ring the on-call dentist, kh - if you can get to it quick enough, the tooth may be able to be refixed. I always regret that I didn't know that, many years ago when I fell off my bike and knocked my front tooth out.
