I don't see what age has to do with it Matheous. Perhaps a chat to a GP about the extreme change in diet beforehand would be in order though, just to be on the safe side re still getting the right amount of vitamins/minerals/amino acids etc.
No, I know a lady who became one at 68 years of age !
You can become veggie whenever you like, there is no age limit
No. One is never too old or young to make improvements for betterment of their life.
My Mum`s mother was 90 when she became vegetarian (she lived to 97) She was lacto though (not vegan)

My dear wife said I was too old to change now! - I haven't completely done it....-just given up red meat and eating more veg fruits -juices etc., my goal is to get off hypertension meds....
You have to start somewhere and it's a good start. And I know it would work. Good luck.
depends on the reasons for doing so - if you are a lusty 20 year old and the squeeze says forgo any flesh (except mine) then okay but if you are a slightly frail seventy year old who maybe needs all the red meat protein available to stay alive I'd say - think carefully.
What's your reason for the question?
If you could substitute fish for meat, cut down on unhealthy fats, and sugar, and get more exercise, you would see a reduction in BP.
You don`t have to give up eating meat completely. Giving up eating red meat won`t do you any harm at all and eating it once in a while won`t do you any harm either. You can be vegetarian and still eat a lot of saturated fat (via cheese etc) so that lifestyle choice would not necessarily be healthy.
no
You could be a pescatarian. They eat fish and dairy.

RSVP - My goal is to get off hypertension meds-or at least one of the two.....
At the moment I am still eating some dairy and chicken, although unless I can find free range chicken-that will go soon also! I found it quite disgusting that these birds are so crowded together that they are fed anti-biotics to counteract breathing pheocal dust!
No. We eat far too much meat. I think it's been suggested that we should have at least 2 meat free days.

How hard it will be for you depends on what sort of meals you eat.

think it's a great idea - I eat very little meat but plenty of fish. good luck I hope it goes well for you.
I eat loads of fish. Did you know that while pregnant it is recommended that you do not eat more than two portions of fish a week?

I was surprised by that.

I wish you the best of luck.

I certainly would not advice diet change in the "elderly" mainly on the grounds that it may well produce a change in bowel habits which may confuse with the onset of other lower intestinal conditions.
Vegetarianism has nothing to do with age. You can always make lifestyle changes that will make a difference in your body. Even listening to some good yoga music does wonders for the soul.

Thanks for all your input. It's just a pity my other half isn't behind me on this one! I'm still pretty determined to change.
