Hip Surgery
6 Answers
Am due to see a consultant soon about my hip pain, my doctors said I may need replacement hip or something called resurfacing op.
Anyone out there who has experience of either op\/
I`m fit/active not over weight & mid 60`s. Will this help in my recovery?
How long will this take? As I live on my own will I need someone with me for some days after?

A THR (Total Hip Replacement) usually takes 45-60 minutes operating time, depending on the type of hip replacement you have and the skill of the surgeon.
Your recovery time will indeed be shorter due to the factors you've mentioned.
Best of luck.

Pick your surgeon carefully and your unit.
Hip resurfacing? Do you live near Birmingham?
Fit, mid 60's. a Charnley Total Hip replacement (cemented and metal on vinyl) will last you 30 years (your hip will see you out)
In hospital for a week crutches 6 weeks....then off you go.
Yes if someone can stay with you for the 6 weeks would be helpful.
