I just had a cigar on the high street and for once i wasn't tutted at, told "Do you know a cigar's like 15 cigarettes" or told the smoke was in peoples and faces and it's clear why, all the handwringers are on here! To those complaining about smoke, do you wear and advise all family, friends and work colleagues to wear a facemask like the japanese to protect them from...

i'm a non smoker but trying to ban it outdoors is totally impractical
Good.

Can't stand breathing in 2nd hand smoke. Smokers don't realise how abhorrent the smell is to us non-smokers.
I agree with a ban on smoking in all public areas.
can't see it happening .i'm a smoker but not a driver so walking around i breathe in all the muck cars throw out of exhaust pipes especially in winter when drivers leave their engines running to clean windows .
i agree with banning it indoors but outside is a bit of a stretch. I do think smokers could be a bit more considerate in where they are smoking though i.e. not right outside the supermarket entrance
I think it's a great idea if they want to pub trade to decline further...
I very rarely smoke on the street as I find it quite common, but I love to sit in a beer garden with my friends and enjoy a ciggie.

I accept the smoking ban inside but to ban it outside is just plain silly!
I think its a step too far, smokers are penalised enough as it is.
If people want to smoke in a beer garden perhaps they should be given a designated area.
I suggest in the corner of the car park next to the wheelie bins.
Matt, smokers so know because non smokers don't stop banging on about it.
As said above, it will kill off already dwindling pubs and other leisure venues with outdoor areas attached.
bring it on! There's nothing worse than sitting in an outside cafe in the lovely weather than to be bombarded with someone else's smoke, breathing fresh air is natural, smoking isn't.
RAUCHEN IST VERBOTEN!
good player.
I'd rather the beer garden didn't seem a forbidden place because of all the smoking, but I can't see a total ban as practical. Best one can hope for is fewer folk being foolish enough to take up the habit each generation, a growing number managing to give up, and it's eventual dying out.
why can't non smokers stay inside?
I`m not bothered if people smoke on the street but I wouldn`t mind if it was banned in beer gardens. Since the smoking ban indoors, all the smokers have migrated to the beer garden so it`s not just one or two people smoking there, but the majority. They banned smoking in beer gardens/outside spaces in the US years ago and their trade doesn`t seem to have suffered (at least as far as can be seen).
I'm a non-smoker with severe respiratory problems and now find most pub beer gardens populated with smokers. Similarly, most of the coffee shops and restaurants in our village centre have tables and chairs outside on the pavement which are primarily used by smokers. Not only is it impossible for me to sit outside, but simply walking past one of these places will cause me breathing difficulty. From a personal point of view I would ban all smoking within 25 yards of all eating and/or drinking establishments.
''I suggest in the corner of the car park next to the wheelie bins''

No more room... all the Nescafé coffee drinkers, vegetarians, homosexuals, racists, paedophiles and anyone else who is a stain on society are there (including those of a left-handed persuasion).
^ And the Marmite eaters.
