For over three weeks I've had a pain down the back of my leg from just above the knee right down into my ankle.
It's like a dull throbbing ache.
Went to see doctor about ten days ago who wasn't sure but said it could be a trapped nerve and advised ibuprofen, and to keep moving. He said to go back if no improvemnet after a couple of weeks.
No improvement so far, in fact I think it's worse although the pain does vary from day to day.
It's worse at night and wakes me up.
anyone got any suggestions as to what I could do to improve it?

I assume that the leg id not swollen or discoloured.

Does this pain come on during walking and goes when you rest?

Have you any underlying diseases for which you are being treated?

No swelling or redness.
Actually seems worse when I am resting and easier when I walk about.
No other illnesses and not on any medication.
Usually reasonably fit for a woman of middle years!
Thanks, that is helpful.

It sounds as though the problem may be with the kneejoint itself, probably an arthritic knee or a loose body.

Go back to see your GP who may suggest an Orthopaedic opinion.

thank you for your advice, I will try and get an appointment this week, although no doubt they won't have one until just after New Year!
Will keep popping the tablets.

I seem to be suggesting physio's right left and centre tonight. If you really do have to wait ages for a GP and can afford it, a visit to a decent sports physio might be helpful, and cheaper as a starter than a private orthopaedic opinion.
