My teeth are in a bad way, my own fault for not looking after them for many years through 2 bad experiences with dentists.

Approx. how long does it take from extraction to having the dentures fitted and does it take long to get used to them?
Also, how did you get along with eating without teeth.

I am entitled to have it done on the NHS I hope as I'm on Pension Credit.

Sorry apart from a crown on one tooth I've still got all my own, so I can't help.
Don't know what to tell you here. Are you going to have all of them out? Usually the dentist will only take out the really bad ones and try to patch the others up one way or another, fillings, crowns etc. If you have all of them out you may have to wait a while for the gums to heal over and settle but if less you can have them put into the gaps almost immediately. You will soon get used to eating without teeth and in the meantime you can eat soft things, like mashing your potatoes and having porridge for breakfast instead of bacon and eggs. Once you have the dentures you have to get used to wearing them and sometimes they can make your gums sore but you can go back to the dentist for help. Persevere as they will eventually settle down and you will look so much better with nice teeth, even if they are dentures. Personally, I would not be seen dead without my teeth and I mean that literally. So pride should make you wear them if nothing else. Bestof lk!
That should have been best of luck. Think I am typing too quickly for this computer.
No, but I reckon I'll need them after eating this rock hard nectarine! Grrr
There are two things that I wished I had done better when I was young.

One is to have had more sex, and the other is to have looked after my teeth a little better.

And now, at age 60, if I had to choose, its the better teeth maintenance that seems more important !

A Granny Smith is a distant memory these days !

Thanks starone,

I think he will take them all out as hardly any are in a good state :-(
Apparently even if only a few are left they help to anchor the dentures into your mouth.
People who I know with false teeth look amazing!& They eat nuts etc.
Teeth are so important to you especially when you want to give a big smile.
My one wish, isnt more money ---its to have a good set of nashers.
Had two out on Thursday and partial denture put straight in. Finding it sore and uncomfortable at the moment but am persevering. Eating is a bit difficult,am living on soup and mashed banana, have lost 2lbs.
Well it now a choice Chew or false
If you have them all out then you will have to wait for the gums to harden before an impression can be taken. Then you will be called back for a fitting and if all ok (it should be) then off you go. Should be all done in about two weeks. The hard part is not eating without teeth it is trying to eat with the new ones!! I remember my first meal was fish and chips and I kept losing the chips in my mouth! Couldnt feel them at but you will soon get used to them. Go for it
I had mine made before they took the teeth out and the dentures were put in as soon as the bleeding had stopped. (Next day) Some time later they were re-aligned to fit as the gums altered. Good luck, its a bit of a pain, but like everything else we get used to it.

That's interesting glenbar, How did they take a cast when your teeth were still in, did you have to pay the extra or was it NHS?
Getting used to it?

I've had upper denture for 60 years and still find it a drag.
I'm with Pam. However, I've had some implants and theyr'e working well, touch wood.
