after fracturing my ankle just over 2 weeks ago my consultant recomended me to take 2 aspirins daily to prevent blood clots,i was fine the first week, but then started to get breathless on exertion, went to the docs and she sent me to hospital over night fearing a blood clot, all tests ,x-ray ,and CT scan came back clear, a different consultant said i should not be taking daily aspirin.Does anybody know if aspirin can cause breathlessness and what should i do.

Two aspirins sounds like a lot. Are you taking any other medications? Perhaps interaction with them, if any?
Paracetamol is my pain killer of choice for minor things. One night a couple of months ago I had a headache at bedtime. We had run out of paracetamol so I took 2 aspirin and went to bed. I have never had any previous trouble with aspirin. I went to sleep immediately and woke up struggling to breathe about 15 mins later. I could barely see as my eyes were so puffed up they were closed and Mr O said my face looked like a football. It turns out I now have a sudden onset allergy to aspirin.
Anyway, to answer your question, it caused me to be breathless so my answer is yes
I was told to avoid it being asthmatic so not sure if it can set that off. I guess I've always just avoided aspirin after being told that.
It shouldn`t do unless you are allergic to it and if you were, you would have got symptoms quite quickly (and probably other symptoms such as swelling of the lips etc)
I'm allergic to aspirin - but it may be that you were prescribed aspirin for its blood-thinning properties. Contact your GP in the morning.
The aspirin would have been prescribed for the blood thinning properties. Do you need that after two weeks when you are (presumably) active again though?
It is unlikely that Aspirin had anything t do with your breathlessness.

I agree with the Consultant, I cannot see any reason for taking Aspirin after your broken ankle, warfarin would have been a better choice if "blood clots" were on the cards.
